The Minister of Institutional Relations, , said that the decree that expands the power of the first lady, , is not a privilege and that the decision aims to support the representation work already carried out by the president’s companion ().

“Firstly, it is not a privilege and secondly, it is not a raise [dos direitos]the decree is just reproducing the opinion of the Attorney General of the Union, that the first lady, due to her status, as the president’s companion, also has a political role, of representation, and needs the conditions to have this role”, he stated in an interview with SBT News.

“It’s not hiring anyone, it’s not generating expenses, it’s all that’s already in the structure,” he said. Gleisi reiterated that representing the president at events and trips is a role previously performed by other first ladies, and mentioned Michelle Bolsonaro by name.

According to , the decree makes the services of the Personal Office of the Presidency of the Republic available to you.

The office helps organize the agenda and ceremonies, receive and respond to correspondence, formulate statements, form the private collection, manage the artistic collection under the responsibility of the Presidency and preserve and adapt the palaces and residences used by the president.

The minister also stated that the decision does not bring any new expenses, as Janja will use the same team that already works with her. The opposition is trying to prevent the decision from being maintained. The leader of the PL in the Chamber, Sóstenes Cavalcante, filed a project that aims to suspend the decree.

“The first lady did not run for any position and, much less, was elected or authorized by the Federal Constitution or any law in the strict sense to have funds, public employees at her disposal and, worst of all, represent the head of the Executive in activities of a cultural, social or ceremonial nature”, says the text.

During the interview, Gleisi even stated that the opposition is concerned about the issue “for lack of anything to do”. “They have to take care of Bolsonaro,” he said.
