The former president of the São Paulo City Council presented a criminal report against lawyers for accusations of , in a police report registered in the 78th Police District (Jardins).
Lawyers Vicente Renato Paolillo, José Mauro Marques, João Boyadjian and Hoanes Koutoudjian referred to Leite as a “crazy anthropoid” in a petition during Jockey’s judicial recovery process.
Anthropoid, as stated in dictionaries, refers to monkeys such as orangutans and chimpanzees. Leite defines himself as black.
“Those represented are all men, white, with higher education, lawyers and businesspeople, who have certainly never experienced suffering from any act of racism equivalent to that committed against the victim”, write in the representation Leite’s lawyers, Luciano Vitor Engholm Cardoso and Fernando Capez.
“Those represented acted with linguistic sophistication in order to promote an act of public racism against the victim equivalent to calling her a ‘monkey who lost his mind”, they emphasize in the complaint.
In the petition, Jockey’s lawyers claim that the City Council approved, under Leite’s presidency, one of the club’s main activities.
“And the councilor mentioned, like a deranged anthropoid, said: ‘horse owners, get your horses out of there, because you will be arrested'”, say the Jockey’s defenders.
Leite says he will seek exemplary punishment and that, in the event of compensation, the money will go to institutions that work with the black community, such as Zumbi dos Palmares.
“I have never admitted racism, I have always fought against this crime, whether in my political activities or in my private life. We cannot remain silent”, says Leite. “I fully trust that justice will be done in this case”, says the former councilor.
When contacted, the Jockey did not want to speak out.
