The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) denied this Monday (13) a request from the defense of () to revoke the former president’s house arrest.
Moraes justified the maintenance by “guaranteeing public order and the need to ensure the full application of criminal law”.
“The end of the trial on the merits of this Criminal Action 2668, with the sentencing of the defendant Jair Messias Bolsonaro to a custodial sentence of 27 years and 3 months, in an initial closed regime, and the well-founded fear of the defendant escaping, as has repeatedly occurred in similar situations in the convictions referring to 1/8/2023, authorize the maintenance of house arrest and precautionary measures”, argued the minister.
Last month, the former president’s defense had requested the revocation of all precautionary measures imposed against him in the investigation investigating coercion of the Judiciary, with support from the Donald Trump administration.
The request involved the reconsideration of Bolsonaro’s house arrest and the ban on using social media. Lawyer Paulo Cunha Bueno said that the request is due to the fact that (Attorney General’s Office) against Eduardo did not include the former president among those accused of coercion against the Supreme Court.
