The PL leader in the Chamber, Sóstenes Cavalcante (RJ), filed this Monday, 13th, a project to overturn the decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) at the end of August. O to Janja, spouse of the President of the Republic “in the exercise of activities of public interest”.

Sóstenes argues that the decree “creates a structure financed with public money to ‘serve’ the first lady who has no public office, was not elected and only knows how to spend Brazilians’ money”.

“The decree is immoral and irregular, made only to promote Janja’s image and strengthen the government’s marketing, and not to serve the people. Is that why the government tries to create a new tax every day?”, questioned the deputy on the social network X.

The presidential cabinet is headed by Marco Aurélio Ribeiro, known as Marcola.

Planalto maintains that Lula’s decree ensured transparency in the government’s actions and only consolidates the rules relating to the first lady’s actions.

As Estadão reported in December 2024, the government maintained a team of at least 12 people at Janja’s disposal. The group includes a press officer, photographers, social media experts and a military officer as aide-de-camp. Janja’s “team” cost around R$160,000 in salaries per month.
