The story of a father who is convinced that he had taken his child to the kindergarten, but the little daughter remained forgotten in the car on a hot summer day, brought a new film Teresa Nvot. The toddler did not survive. The dramatic film, Father, enjoys the enormous public interest and also critics, won the main prize at the Zurich festival.
The film premiered at the International Film Festival in Venice in August 2025. In the story inspired by real events, he represents his father (Milan Ondrík), whose tragic mistake shakes his loving marriage and leaves him completely lonely. Under the threat of prison and with a feeling of an unbearable guilt, seeking back to regain his wife’s trust (Dominika Morávková) and save the love that still connects them despite the pain.
The suggestive and unusual processed drama will represent Slovakia at the 98th year of the prestigious Oscar Award in the Best International Film category. “I have led a lot of questions to choose this topic that the story like this is,” Nvotová said, saying that the story is deep and it’s not just a tragedy.
“I tried to understand how such a trauma can pull a person out of the world, How to find a way of returning, how to understand how to forgive it, and then I wanted to bring it to the whole society, “she summed up.
Many people were concerned about the film and were not sure if they would be able to take a look at such a difficult theme. Those who took courage then recommended the film on social networks. The Slovak musical actress Barbora Ďurovčíková, who overwhelmed emotions, also chose the cinema.
“I’m crying … but so deep and we have the opportunity to think. We must not always understand why something happens. We don’t always find answers. But we can decide not to judge. Just feel. Adopt. We all finally equal, “wrote the wife of director and choreographer Ján Ďurovčík on Instagram. You can find the photo of her post in the gallery.
