The Vegas Ghost Hunt contest invites people to spend a weekend at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino equipped with EMF meters, EVP recorders and thermal sensors, to find out if there really are ghosts in the hotel — who wants nothing to do with the matter.

Las Vegas has always lived with ghosts. Usually the ones that haunt blackjack tables and strip clubs, not the ones that whisper through empty hotel hallways.

But this October, a contest will blur that line, offering $5,000 to a brave guest willing to spend a weekend at the city’s oldest hotel in a hunt for the paranormal between its walls marked by history, says .

The opened its doors in 1941, on Fremont Street, when Las Vegas was still dominated by mobsters and men with too much money and few rules. AND one of the last traces from that time — a place where time and cigarette smoke seem to have been trapped in the carpet.

As ghost stories have been with him for decades: invisible footsteps, areas of sudden cold and even rumors that the basement stores the ashes of former employees with no family to claim them.

Now, Casino.org wants proofand launched the competition, which invites one (lucky?) person to spend a weekend at El Cortez equipped with EMF meters, EVP recorders and thermal sensors.

The mission is simple: find out if the hotel ghosts are real or just part of the show. The chosen participant must record everything in photographs, videos and notes about any strange phenomenon they encounter.

The search runs from October 6th to 31st, and the investigation is scheduled for December — just in time for the festive seasonwhen a hint of existential angst pairs well with the glow of neon.

The winner you will receive all ghostbusting equipment and the chance of raising a prize of 5 thousand dollars (around 4,300 euros), enough to pay for two nights in Las Vegas and a strong drink at the end.

El Cortez, however, wants to stay away from the competition. “El Cortez Hotel & Casino is aware of a recent online promotion related to the ‘Vegas Ghost Hunt,’ but has no connection to this contest nor to its organizers,” a spokesperson told The New York Post. Still, the hotel didn’t exactly deny the presence of guests from another world.

There is a certain poetry in this proposal. Las Vegas is built on luck, illusion and risk — the same ingredients that keep ghost stories alive. And want the winner find a spirit or just your own reflection at three in the morning, you will leave with a good check.

It is said that what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas. Let’s just hope that spectral bad karma doesn’t follow the victor home.
