United States President Donald Trump expressed confidence this Sunday (12) that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas will be maintained.
Asked by reporters about the matter inside the official presidential plane, Trump added that there are many reasons why he believes the agreement will be maintained, including the fact that people are “tired” of the conflict.
“I think people are tired of this. It’s been centuries, okay, not just recently. It’s been centuries. I think people are tired of it. Yes, the ceasefire will hold,” he commented.
“The war is over. The war is over, do you understand that?”, concluded the Republican.
Trump is on his way to Israel, where he is scheduled to speak in Parliament.
The US leader was asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about moving forward to the next phase of the peace deal. In response, the president praised the prime minister.
“He’s a wartime president. He did a great job. I had some differences with him,” he said.
“But as far as I’m concerned, I think he did a great job. I think he was the right person at this time,” he continued.
Netanyahu and Trump have had a sometimes tumultuous relationship, at times over the prime minister’s actions in Gaza, Syria and Qatar.
