The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) is accepting applications for a new public competition that aims to fill 125 vacancies for the position of Assistant Professor A1. Registration can be done on the website of until October 24th.
Starting salaries range from R$4,326.60 (for 20 hours per week) to R$13,288.85 (for 40 hours, on an exclusive dedication basis – DE).
New quota law expands affirmative actions
This is the first competition for professor at UFRJ held under the scope of Law No. 15,142/2025, which modernized and expanded the quota policy in the federal public service.
The new competition aims 30% of vacancies for affirmative actions, surpassing the previous 20% that were exclusive to The distribution is now:
- 25% for blacks (blacks and browns)
- 3% for indigenous people
- 2% for quilombolas
Additionally, 5% of total vacancies are reserved for people with disabilities. A complementary notice, to be published, will detail the operational procedure for distributing these vacancies.
Cecília Izidoro, deputy superintendent of Sgaada (General Superintendence of Affirmative Actions, Diversity and Accessibility), highlighted the need for change in the institution: “The changes will require the entire community of a new commitment: abandon conservative and ineffective forms of competition, and adopt more transparent, inclusive models in line with current legislation around affirmative action.”

The competition also marks the beginning of a new phase for at UFRJ, after recent changes to job and salary plans that increased the entry salary, making the career more competitive.
The Vice-Dean of Personnel, Neuza Luzia Pinto, guaranteed the commitment to recompose the teaching staff: “We are working to guarantee appointments in 2026, which, as it is an election year, only allows candidates to be nominated from competitions approved up to three months before the election. Our commitment is to recomposing the teaching workforce at UFRJ.”

Although the exact requirement depends on the field, most vacancies require the doctorate degree.
Contest schedule
The notice establishes that the tests will be carried out during the January 23 to April 16, 2026. The final result, after the appeals phase, is expected to be released by the day May 21, 2026.
