Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár welcomed the signature of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip on Monday, the return of 20 living Israeli hostages and also the release of the bodies of four dead hostages. At the same time, he described as worrying statements of Hamas that he would not set up weapons. The agreement that representatives of the USA, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey signed on Monday in the Egyptian city of Šarm Ash-Šajch, according to Blanar “It is a fundamental step on the road to fulfilling the complex peace plan of US President Donald Trump.”

“The Slovak Republic welcomes the release and return of 20 Israeli hostages detained by Hamas, as well as the release of the remains of the remaining victims. However, the statements of Hamas are not disturbing that they will not put off weapons. Slovakia supports the efforts of Egypt and Qatar to achieve the composition of weapons, ”said the head of Slovak diplomacy.

According to him, Slovakia has been supporting the Trumps’ 20-point plan for the Gaza band from the beginning “As a significant chance to de -escalate tensions in the region, end the conflict by reaching peace, immediately increase humanitarian aid and thus alleviate the consequences of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the suffering of the civilian population ”.

The Minister reiterated that the SR supports the two-state solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to him, Slovak diplomacy will “continue to intensify humanitarian efforts and continue to provide political support for peace.”
