Broadcaster says the program will air “earlier than usual”; the change was announced at an event for the advertising market
The TV will suspend the broadcast of the 9pm soap opera to broadcast the debate between candidates for the presidency of the Republic in September 2026. The broadcaster made the announcement on Monday (Oct 13, 2025), during the event held in São Paulo and aimed at the advertising market.

The suspension of the network’s main dramatic production will take place specifically in September, the month before the 1st round of the election. THE Globo will be responsible for organizing and broadcasting the debate, bringing together the main candidates for the position of head of the Executive.
The measure comes after the experience with the presidential debate in the 1st round in 2022, which featured the then candidates (PT) and (PL) and lasted until approximately 2 am.
With the new strategy, the Globo seeks to avoid similar problems and expand the scope of electoral coverage.
The broadcaster did not disclose details about the format of the debate, the expected duration or the criteria for the candidates’ participation.
