The Brazilian Women’s Reference Center, which will operate on Estrada da Floresta, will focus on humanized reception and specialized care for women in situations of gender-based violence. The space will offer psychological, social and legal support, with care provided by a multidisciplinary team, in addition to working in partnership with governmental and non-governmental institutions within the protection network, ensuring integrated and efficient service.
The Casa da Mulher Brasileira, in turn, will concentrate specialized and multidisciplinary services in one place, such as reception and screening, psychosocial support, police station, court, Public Prosecutor’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, promotion of economic autonomy, toy library, transit accommodation and transport center, with the aim of facilitating women’s access to protection services, avoiding revictimization and promoting female autonomy and empowerment.
Governor Gladson Camelí, during the event, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the cause of women. “It is unacceptable that there are still cases of femicide in 2025. We are united to face this evil and ensure that our women have safety, respect and opportunities. The Casa da Mulher Brasileira is an achievement for the people of Acre and an important step in building a more just and egalitarian future”, he stated.
The total investment in the two works is R$ 6,227,168.00, with R$ 4,848,200.35 allocated to the construction of the Casa da Mulher Brasileira, with R$ 4,663,900.35 coming from the federal government and R$ 184,300.00 from the state counterpart, and an additional resource of R$ 500 thousand for equipment. The Brazilian Women’s Reference Center will receive R$ 1,124,241.97 from a parliamentary amendment by vice-governor Mailza Assis, obtained when she was a senator, through the Ministry of Defense and the Calha Norte Program.
During the event, vice-governor Mailza Assis highlighted the importance of the works as a continuation of a public policy that she herself helped to initiate in the Senate. “It is a great satisfaction to follow the completion of this work, which was born from an amendment presented during my term as senator. We have already delivered the Reference Centers in Cruzeiro do Sul and Epitaciolândia, and now Rio Branco receives this important equipment. This represents welcome, security and dignity for Acre women”, he stated.
For Márdhia El-Shawwa, head of the State Secretariat for Women (Semulher), the new equipment symbolizes an advance in the protection and valorization of women. “This signature represents a big step for Acre. The House and the Reference Center will strengthen the fight against violence and guarantee more opportunities and autonomy for women in our state”, he said.
The Secretary of State for Public Works, Ítalo Lopes, reinforced the management’s commitment to carrying out the works and thanked the vice-governor for her commitment. “This year, the Department of Works has broken execution records. I thank vice-governor Mailza Assis, who closely monitors each project with great dedication. Seop’s mission is to help the other departments to carry out their activities fully”, he stated.
The national secretary for Combating Violence against Women at the Ministry of Women, Estela Bezerra, highlighted the importance of the initiative in the regional context. “Acre has a great mission: to promote equality between men and women. This house is a symbol of this fight. The federal government and the state government are to be congratulated for prioritizing this policy and guaranteeing a space of support and dignity for the victims”, he declared.
In addition to strengthening the protection network, the works should also generate direct and indirect jobs, contributing to local economic development and consolidating Acre as a reference in combating gender-based violence and promoting female empowerment.
