Marcelo announced his retirement from professional football in February this year. He has been without a club since December 2024, when his termination with Fluminense was made official.
The trigger for the termination was a public disagreement between Marcelo and coach Mano Menezes in November 2024. The full-back was preparing to take the field against Grêmio, when he complained about the coach touching his arm, claiming that Mano wanted to “play mean” to the fans. The coach, in turn, limited himself to saying that he heard something he didn’t like. A day later, Fluminense announced that the athlete would have his contract terminated.
