Meteorological phenomenon caused landslides and floods in regions, affecting 100,000 homes
The president of Mexico, , reported that 64 people died and another 65 were missing due to those that hit the country in the last week. The information was released this Monday (13.Oct.2025), when the Mexican government presented a report caused by the storm that caused landslides and floods in regions of the Gulf coast and central states.
“This intense rain was not expected with such magnitude”declared Sheinbaum in a speech to the press, according to information from .
The meteorological phenomenon occurred close to the end of the rainy season in the country, causing the overflow of rivers that were already full after months of rainfall.
Approximately 100,000 homes were affected by the torrential rains, according to data presented by the Mexican president. The impact was mainly recorded in five states (Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Veracruz), where there was an interruption in the supply of electricity, a service that has already been restored in most of the affected areas.
Sheinbaum has scheduled a meeting with the Ministry of Finance for this Monday (Oct 13) to discuss reconstruction efforts. The president also plans to visit some of the states most affected by the rains.
The Mexican government said it will concentrate efforts to prevent the spread of viruses such as dengue fever, transmitted by mosquitoes that breed in stagnant water resulting from flooding.
