The current epidemic of viral hepatitis A type A has been the worst since 1996, according to the Czech State Health Institute (SZÚ). The worst situation is in the capital, where ten people have already died as a result of the disease. The station said this on Tuesday on the social network X, reports TASR newsletter in Prague.

“As of October 13, 2025, 826 cases were reported, of which 147 were in children. Unfortunately, the disease claimed ten lives. Consistent hygiene and vaccination remain the most effective protection,” Prague hygienists.
SZÚ recalled on their website that last year’s data, when 636 people were infected with jaundice and two people died of it, showing that the infection was gradually spreading across the Republic. This year the numbers of infected increased significantly. By October 5, 1842 were infected in the Czech Republic and at least 21 people had already died this year. Almost half of all infected are from Prague.
The Institute recalled that the infection is also referred to as dirty hands, as non -compliance with basic hygiene habits significantly contribute to its spread. The virus is also transmitted by contaminated water. In addition to vaccination, the prevention of increasing and adherence to personal hygiene is part of the prevention.
