(Reuters) – Walmart announced on Tuesday a partnership with OpenAI to allow customers and Sam’s Club members to make purchases directly through ChatGPT, using the chatbot’s Instant Checkout feature.
Walmart’s growing investment in artificial intelligence aims to close the gap with online giant Amazon, which had a head start with its chatbot, Rufus, a shopping assistant based on generative artificial intelligence that responds to various shopping queries.
Walmart’s partnership with ChatGPT creator follows a similar alliance that OpenAI announced last month with Etsy and Shopify.
