(Reuters) – Finance Minister Fernando Haddad once again stated this Tuesday that the government is looking for better fiscal results, at the same time as it seeks to achieve social justice.
During a public hearing at the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE), in Brasília, Haddad acknowledged that the fiscal trajectory “requires care”, but considered that “there will always be work to be done” in the area.
During a presentation to senators, Haddad also criticized the country’s tax exemption programs which, according to him, “cannot be eternal, except in specific cases such as Santas Casas”.

According to Haddad, some sectors in Brazil treat the cut in tax spending as an increase in taxes, and not as an end to privileges.
He also defended the taxation of betting houses, the so-called “bets”, something that for him corrects a distortion.
Haddad said he is confident in the approval of the Income Tax exemption proposal for those earning up to R$5,000, currently being processed in the Senate.
