In an interview with radio stations during the program Bom Dia, Minister, Silveira recalled that Brazil is a country that naturally depends on its hydroelectric plants

The Minister of Mines and Energy, said this Tuesday (14) that the federal government is “completely sure” that the country will not need to resume this year. “The Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee meets monthly to discuss national energy security and reasonable tariffs [princípio que garante cobrança de tarifas justas]. We have come to the conclusion that, thanks to planning and the rainfall in recent years, we are in a condition of complete and absolute energy security for this year.”

In an interview with radio stations during the program Bom Dia, Minister, Silveira recalled that Brazil is a country that naturally depends on its hydroelectric plants. “They give us energy security and depend on our thermal plants. That’s why we are implementing them and, next week, we will launch the thermal auction.” “Brazil produces a lot of energy, especially with the advent of renewable energies. These are still intermittent energies. Therefore, we also have great expectations of launching our battery auction this year. We will literally store wind. The wind will be stored through the batteries.”

“Through the battery, we will have the sun stored for up to 22 hours. Solar energy stored in batteries. It is a great system that stabilizes our system”, he added. The minister highlighted that so-called intermittent energy grew rapidly not only in Brazil, but throughout the world. “It’s a big problem and it’s not a national problem, it’s a problem all over the world. Portugal, have now suffered recent long-term blackouts because of these intermittences.”

“But our system is very robust. There is very good planning and we are completely sure that we do not need daylight saving time this year.” “What cannot be a lack of energy for the Brazilian people. Therefore, we would have complete and absolute courage, if necessary, regardless of opinions and controversies about daylight saving time, to implement it”, he concluded.
