LAS VEGAS – Latin America is not one of the main sources of the billion-dollar contracts that have promoted one of the biggest valuations in the history of technology giant Oracle (ORACL34) in recent months. This responsibility lies with the world’s leading AI model developers. Latin countries, however, are responsible for a growing number of applications based on technology developed by big techs.
“The large volume [de dinheiro fechado nos contratos] It doesn’t come from Latin America, but we are certainly seeing that demand is starting to rise”, says Oracle’s vice president for Latin America, Luiz Meisler, in a press conference ahead of the Oracle AI World event. “Will we have this capacity from these LLMs? It’s hard to say. A level of investment like this, of hundreds of billions of dollars, in Latin America is difficult. Hundreds of millions, we’ll see.”

Leading large language model (LLM) developers such as ChatGPT’s OpenAI, xAI’s Grok or Meta’s Llama are driving expectations for processing contracting for Oracle services in the coming years, as well as global technology companies such as Uber.

In September, Oracle’s market value entered a rally after the company announced the growth of its cloud infrastructure line. According to data shared by the company, the unit will grow 77% this fiscal year, for revenue of US$18 billion. The expectation is, said former CEO Safra Catz. The company does not break down projections by region.
It’s not like Latin America is out of the game. According to Meisler, applications based on language models developed by the main companies based in the United States have increased: “We are consuming GPU [processadores por trás dos data centers dedicado a IA]not necessarily from Latin America, but we are consuming it.”
“In Latin America, unfortunately we won’t have the investment possibilities that we have here in the United States. It’s a capital-intensive business”, says Oracle’s vice president of AI and high tech for Latin America, Leandro Vieira. He considers, however, from the moment the market invests more in Latin America, applications can begin to be exported.
