Longa was among subscribers’ favorites in 81 countries; drama tells the story of the friendship between Pedro (Vitti), a chef about to realize his professional dream
The Brazilian film “Caramelo”, starring and the dog Amendoim, reached the global top 3 most watched films and ranked 1st among non-English language productions, according to data released by the platform. The film was among subscribers’ favorites in 81 countries.
“Caramelo is a story 100% created in Brazil (…) which became one of the most watched films in the world in its opening week”, celebrated Elisabetta Zenatti, Vice President of Content at Netflix in the country. “It is proof that when we tell stories authentically, they can conquer the world.”
Directed by Diego Freitas, the drama tells the story of the friendship between Pedro (Vitti), a chef about to fulfill his professional dream, and a caramel mutt who changes his life after a cancer diagnosis. “This was the biggest challenge of my career to date, mainly because I work 90% of the time with a dog,” Vitti told Estadão. “He always brings new stimuli. There’s no repeating it. I like this unpredictability — and with a dog in the scene, this is inevitable.”
In addition to the success of the film, Netflix launched a national animal adoption campaign, in partnership with Instituto Caramelo and 12 NGOs from 15 Brazilian states, encouraging the adoption of dogs and cats across the country.
