The dispute between Flamengo and Libra has intensified since the beginning of 2025, when the Rio club expressed dissatisfaction with the criteria for dividing the revenue from broadcasting the Brazilian Championship in the contract with the Globo. According to Baptista, the club was harmed by Libra’s guidance, made through Silvio Matos, who told the Globo the payment of installments without consulting Flamengo, even with an open meeting discussing the topic.

Baptista stated that Flamengo gave up around R$500 million over 5 years without guarantees in return. He also said that the projected value of Libra fell from R$250 million to R$200 million, while initial estimates by the club’s Council pointed to R$225 million.

The leader criticized the judicial blockade necessary to ensure fair division and stated that, in Brazil, “the debtor always benefits”. He also rejected the narrative that Flamengo would be selfish and said that the club was prevented from participating in the integration committee with the Liga Forte.

Baptista said that the president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, “She only has a good relationship with those who agree with her on everything” and called it “silly and childish” the suggestion that Flamengo play alone.

The red-black president stated that the club never wanted to leave Libra and tried “by all means pacify the matter”but said that today he would not have agreed with the creation of the league.
