LAS VEGAS – Amid the announcement of an update to its main database service with the incorporation of artificial intelligence, a concern seems to already be on Oracle’s agenda (): the potential of quantum computing to impact data encryption.
This Tuesday (14), the opening of its AI World event, the company announced an update to its AI Database 23ai, a data storage, management and integration service offered by the company. The new version, AI Database 26ai, makes the database natively AI-oriented.

Among the , Oracle announced that customers will be able to run dynamic workflows through AI agents to deliver sophisticated responses and actions that combine private data from customers’ databases with public information.

Advances in quantum computing already divide the industry’s attention between the potential of artificial intelligence and the potential for disruption of a new technology. Ultimately, quantum computers would have the ability to break the encryption of data systems that are currently virtually impossible to access.
Through the AI Database, Oracle implements National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)-approved quantum-resistant algorithms to encrypt data in transit. The technology will be combined with existing support for quantum computing-resistant encryption for data at rest.
Basically, they are defenses to prevent hackers from collecting company data today, but also prevent it from being accessed in the future using quantum computers. Oracle says other vendors have implemented quantum-resistant algorithms in their network and storage architectures or in database services, but none have done so in both.
