- Grudnik is a plant that requires proper care to bloom beautifully.
- It likes certain light conditions, temperature and substrate.
- Bud and leaf problems can be caused by stress.
- To bloom, it needs regular watering, fertilization and a rest period.
- It is worth paying attention to the size of the pot and using homemade nutrients.
Although it belongs to the cactus family, it does not tolerate dryness. Its flattened, segmented shoots require regular irrigation and an appropriate location. In autumn, the flower enters the phase of preparation for flowering, so it is worth taking care of its needs to enjoy beautiful flowers in winter.
What does the December bird like? Meet his requirements
The plant grows best in bright but diffused light, without direct sunlight. The optimal temperature is 15-20 degrees C. The substrate should be permeable, slightly acidic, with the addition of peat or perlite. In autumn, watering should be limited to prevent the roots from rotting; once every 10-14 days is enough when the top layer of soil dries out.
Why does the deciduous plant lose buds and have wrinkled leaves?
The plant should not be moved or rotated as this may result in the dropping of buds. The situation is similar with wrinkled leaves, where the most common cause is stress related to changes in conditions such as too dry air, drafts, excess water or a sudden change of location. It is worth increasing the air humidity (e.g. by placing a humidifier or a bowl of water next to the plant), checking whether the roots are not rotting and ensuring stable light and temperature conditions.
Why isn’t the December flowering plant blooming?
The grove usually blooms twice a year. As its name suggests, one of the dates is December. However, sometimes it happens that the plant does not bloom, then it is worth checking its substrate. Watering is extremely important. The soil must not be allowed to dry out completely. Otherwise, the leaves will begin to wrinkle and wilt. And restoring balance takes a very long time. The result may be a lack of flowering because the plant invests all its energy in the leaves. Therefore, if you want the December tree to bloom again, water it once a week. However, remember not to overwater the plant. The soil must be moist, but not wet. After watering, also pour out the water from the stand. Grudnik also likes sprinkling. You can do this every 2-3 days using the remaining lukewarm water or rainwater. Outside of dormancy periods, it is also worth fertilizing the plant with cactus or potted plant food. We repeat the treatment every 3 weeks.
For the December tree to bloom, it needs peace
In order for the December plant to bloom twice a year, it must also be allowed to rest twice a year. The first one – from August to October, the second one at the turn of February and March, i.e. after the plant fades. Then the zygocactus needs a cooler place. It is best to move it to a room where the temperature is around 6-10 degrees Celsius. During this time, we do not fertilize the flower and water it less. After 3-4 weeks, it can be moved to the target position and gradually watered and fertilized. It is important not to move the plant when flower buds appear.
The Grudnik prefers a smaller pot
If you want to get the December tree to bloom, take a closer look at the pot. Very often we think that flowers should have a lot of space, but in the case of December flowers it is completely different. The plant does not have a very extensive root system, so it does not need a large pot. A small and flat container will be much better, as it will be easier to control the soil moisture. It is also important not to replant the flower during April. Then you need to provide the plant with peace and stable conditions. Otherwise it may lose buds.
December. Homemade nutrients that will stimulate the flower to bloom
If you want to encourage a flower to bloom, you can also use the valuable advice I received from the florist. When purchasing the plant, she advised to water the schlumbergera with water with activated carbon. A popular and inexpensive drug that helps with diarrhea, you can buy it at any pharmacy. Just dissolve one tablet in standing water (0.5 l) and water the flower with this solution. You can also water the plant with banana fertilizer. To make it, just cut a very ripe banana (with the peel) into smaller pieces, put it in a jar and pour hot water over it. After 48 hours, strain. It is worth watering this home-made fertilizer not only for the grove, but also for other flowering plants twice a month.
