recorded a 35.2% increase in the production of new energy vehicles, NEVs, in the first 9 months of 2025, totaling 11.24 million units. The data was released this Wednesday (October 15, 2025) by Caam (China Automobile Manufacturers Association).
The term NEV represents all vehicles that have electrical power sources. Sales of this type of car reached 11.23 million units in the same period – representing growth of 34.9% compared to the same period last year.
The new energy vehicle sector has been consolidating its position in China’s automobile industry. It is almost half of total vehicle sales: it corresponds to 46.1% of the total number of vehicles sold in the Chinese market.
Total automobile production in China reached 24.33 million units in the first 3 quarters of the year, an increase of 13.3% compared to the same time in 2024. Total sales totaled 24.36 million vehicles, an increase of 12.9%.
According to Caam, Chinese automobile exports maintained their growth trajectory, with an increase of 14.8% in the annual comparison. New energy vehicles stood out in foreign trade, with 1.76 million units exported, an increase of 89.4% compared to the same period in 2024.
The positive performance of the Chinese auto industry was driven by vehicle exchange programs, local auto shows and new product launches.
