He needed to speak and he has done so, although subtly. The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, wanted to clarify the situation around Spain and the confrontations with the US over its decision not to reach 5% of GDP in Defense despite the signing of the agreement at the Hague summit.
Rutte defended this Wednesday that at the June meeting, the allies agreed and signed to raise Defense spending to 5% of GDP in ten years, a matter in which there was “total unanimity” and that is “a good thing” for the NATO secretary general.
Succinctly, Rutte added about Spain, indicating that it “fully agrees with the capacity objectives” assigned. “And that’s what’s important.”
