The minister, from the (Supreme Federal Court), felt unwell during the afternoon of this Wednesday (15), and was admitted to Hospital Sírio Libanês, in Brasília.
According to information from the Supreme Court’s press office, Barroso felt the discomfort in the STF. He was taken to the emergency room at the health unit.
The initial suspicion was a virus, but the minister undergoes a series of tests to confirm the diagnosis.
The minister announced his early retirement from the court last Thursday (9). The act was formalized in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union, providing for removal from October 18, 2025.
When announcing his departure, he stated that he would leave to live “a little more of the life” he had left. “Without public exposure, the obligations and demands of the position. With more spirituality, literature and poetry”, he said.
