‘This proposal improves safety in school environments’

The Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission approved the bill that includes the National Plan for Preventing and Combating Violence in the school environment as one of the instruments of the National Public Security and Social Defense Policy (PNSPDS). The proposal must go to the Senate and amends Law 13,675/18, creating the Unified Public Security System (Susp), to reinforce actions to prevent and repress violence in schools.

At the suggestion of the rapporteur, deputy (PL-MG), the committee approved a version of the Education Commission for Bill 1725/23, by deputy Captain Alden (PL-BA), author of the original version, and another initiative that is being processed together. “This proposal improves safety in school environments, while protecting the right to life, safety and education of the most vulnerable people in society”, stated Nikolas Ferreira in the approved opinion.

In the first version, the deputy cited 24 records of attacks with extreme violence in schools in Brazil until 2023. “In this scenario, a state policy is needed to combat this type of violence”, he argued.

The text also provides that any measures must be assisted by the National Information System for Public Security, Prisons, Traceability of Weapons and Ammunition, Genetic Material, Digital and Drugs (Sinesp).
