Carrying flowers and candles to graves is a very old tradition, its roots dating back to pre-Christian timeswhen the Slavs lit fires and planted trees or bushes next to the graves of the dead to protect their souls. Nowadays, most of us choose chrysanthemums – they are the most popular cemetery flower, but some people also choose other plants. Not everyone knows that it is better not to put certain species on the grave, it may be a bad omen.
There are plenty of flowers in flower shops and shops before All Saints’ Day, you can choose from both artificial bouquets and live plants – most often chrysanthemums in various colors. For November 1, it is better to choose live flowersartificial ones are not a bad option, but it is worth keeping the ecological aspect in mind – the coming winter will destroy them quite quickly, and this type of products are difficult to recycle, so chrysanthemums will be a good option.
By choosing live flowers, first of all you should not reach for alpine violets — their beautiful colors may be tempting, but they are associated with misfortune. In addition, they can make it difficult to find your other half, so leaving them in the cemetery may bring bad luck. Apart from that it’s better not to choose cloves they are a symbol of love, so placing them on tombstones may deprive us of the chance to find it.
For purely practical reasons, it is not worth putting flowers that do not last long on graveswho will find it difficult to survive in the prevailing conditions, including: tulips or hyacinths. Even though they are beautiful and free from superstition, they will not last longer than a few days.

Mainly, you should not use two colors of flowers:
- Yellow — this color can be a symbol of joy and friendship, but it is also associated with falsehood and jealousy. When combined with candles in the same color, it may be perceived poorly. This also applies to chrysanthemums, especially single-colored ones; you can choose two- or three-colored ones with the addition of yellow.
- Red — they are a symbol of love, which has good connotations, but in the case of flowers for the cemetery, especially on November 1, it is better to avoid this color. Of course, if we are carrying a bouquet to the grave of a very close person, we can choose this type of color, but in the case of extended family, it is worth choosing a different color.
