Government creates indicative age range of 6 years

Measure will apply to audiovisual products and cell phone apps; the current classifications are: free, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 years old

The Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, announced this Wednesday (October 15, 2025) the creation of a new indicative age range for audiovisual products and cell phone applications. The recommendation will be for content unsuitable for children under 6 years of age. Currently, the existing classifications are free, 10 years, 12, 14,16 and 18 years.

“Risks present in electronic games, applications and social networks will now be assessed, such as contact with unknown adults, unauthorized online purchases and potentially dangerous interactions with artificial intelligence agents”disse Lewandowski.

According to the minister, the objective is “create mechanisms that contribute to the construction of a safer, more educational and respectful media and digital environment for Brazilian children”.

Lewandowski’s announcement was made during a meeting that aimed to launch public policies to promote dialogue and institutional articulation around the defense of rights and to ensure a safer future for children and adolescents.
