The City of Mogi das Cruzes (SP) obtained an injunction in court against the installation of a toll on a highway that runs through the city.
Charging would be in a free flow system, without a cabin and based on electronic gantries on the road. The system would be placed on the Pedro Eroles highway, which was granted to the private sector and managed by the Novo Litoral concessionaire. It would be on the stretch that connects the city center to the Ayrton Senna highway.
The injunction responded to the request of the management of Mayor Marta Bertaiolli (PL), who argued that the toll would violate collective rights of the population of the city of Greater São Paulo and that the principle of “fair tariffs” was not being respected, causing losses to the population that needs to travel to the capital or other cities in the metropolitan region.
This is not the only example of a city that has been rebelling against tolls in the free flow system, which have been installed by management. The governor’s allies already fear political wear and tear for him in next year’s campaign.
