PL joins Centrão and suspends criminal action against Gayer; see how parties voted

The Chamber of Deputies voted this Wednesday to suspend the criminal action against federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) that was being processed at the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The parliamentarian is facing a lawsuit for the crimes of slander, insult and defamation against senator Vanderlan Cardoso (PSD-GO).

This Wednesday, 268 deputies voted in favor of the suspension, while 167 were against. 72 deputies were absent and four others abstained. The vote showed a union between the PL and Centrão parties in favor of Gayer.

In the PL, 85 deputies voted in favor of Gayer. Three were absent from the vote. União Brasil parliamentarians were also mostly in favor of suspending the criminal action against Gayer: 39 party members were in favor, while 11 voted against and 8 were absent, with a single abstention. Among the 50 PP parliamentarians, 37 voted for suspension.

Among those affiliated to the PSD, 24 were in favor, five against and 15 were absent at the time of voting. A party parliamentarian abstained. Republican deputies also voted in their majority in favor of the suspension, with 35 being in favor. In the MDB, 20 voted in favor. Members of Novo, Avante and PSDB accounted, respectively, for 5, 6 and 7 of the votes in favor of the suspension. Four deputies from the PRD and two from Cidadania were in favor.

Left-wing parties voted against benefiting Gayer. The PT had 65 votes against the measure, with two deputies absent at the time of the vote. PSB, PDT, Psol, PC do B, PV and Rede also voted against suspending the criminal action.
