With a dominant first half and a confident performance in the final stage, Santos beat Corinthians this Wednesday (15) 3-1 at Vila Belmiro, in a match for the Brazilian Championship.

Rafael, Barreal and Rollheiser scored the goals that led the Baixada Santista team to their eighth victory in the competition in the 27th round. Raniele scored for the visiting team, who suffered their 11th defeat in this edition.

Despite still being in 16th place in the table, the first outside the red section, Santos managed to open a good lead over Vitória, the first club in the relegation zone. Six points separate the two teams (31 to 25). With 33, Corinthians remains in 12th place.

In addition to Santos’ good performance, Corinthians suffered from a series of absences, such as their starting goalkeeper, Hugo Souza, who was serving the national team. Young Felipe Longo, 20, was the one who defended the black and white goal.

The offensive sector also started disfigured, as Memphis Depay and Rodrigo Garro were spared by the coaching staff and started the confrontation on the bench. When they entered the final stage, Santos had already built their advantage and managed the game.

The Santos team, in turn, did not miss the absences they had, especially Neymar. The number 10 has not played for over a month, due to a problem in his right thigh. His last performance was on September 14th. This Wednesday, he was in Vila and watched his team’s victory in a box.
