Mexican authorities said Wednesday that the prosecutor’s office in the US border city of Tijuana was hit by a drone strike, but did not name any suspects. TASR writes about it according to AFP. The Attorney General of the Mexican state of Baja California Maria Elena Andrade told reporters that three drones loaded with explosives attacked. The attack did not cause any casualties.

According to Andrade’s drone they dropped improvised explosive devices containing nails and pieces of metal and their explosions damaged several vehicles parked in front of the prosecutor’s office. The US consulate in Tijuana had earlier reported the explosions and asked its citizens to stay away from the area.
The Tijuana border is an important border crossing between Mexico and the United States and a key hub for cross-border drug trafficking. In June, Mexican authorities discovered a tunnel in Tijuana leading to the US.
In September, attackers threw Molotov cocktails at vehicles near prosecutors’ offices in Tijuana and Ensenada, another city in Baja California state. Last week, a prosecutor was shot dead in Playas de Rosarito, south of Tijuana.
Criminal organizations in Mexico are increasingly using drones in attacks against rival groups or authorities. According to the American think tank InSight Crime, the powerful Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel has been using explosive drones since at least 2020.
