Trump threatens to deploy federal forces in San Francisco

Since August, Trump has sent federal forces, such as Border Patrol and National Guard agents, to several cities under the pretext of high crime rates and prioritized the detention of undocumented migrants

US President Donald Trump suggested sending federal forces to San Francisco, following his plan to increase security and control in cities governed by Democrats, which he describes as violent.

Trump called his security plan incredible, ensuring that it is “just the beginning”, and suggested that the next city where federal forces and the National Guard could arrive is San Francisco.

The Republican’s suggestion was made during a press conference at the White House, in which the director of the FBI (federal police), Kash Patel, provided details about shipments to other cities, such as Washington, DC, and Chicago.

“We will go to other cities that we are not mentioning on purpose,” Trump pointed out.

Since August, Trump has sent federal forces, such as Border Patrol and National Guard agents, to several cities under the pretext of high crime rates and prioritized the detention of undocumented migrants.

Trump’s plan has focused on Chicago since September 6, with Operation Midway Biltz, led by the Border Patrol, part of a campaign to deport migrants in large numbers.

The initiative resulted in the detention of more than 1,500 people, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed on Monday.

A federal judge today extended a temporary order that prevents the Trump administration from sending the National Guard to Portland.

Karin Immergut extended the order for fourteen days, citing the need to give the court and appeal judges time to analyze the case.

A panel of three appeals court judges is currently considering whether to allow the Government to send the National Guard to respond to protests against police raids against immigration in Portland, located in the northwestern state of Oregon.

The Trump administration insists that Portland is mired in violence due to protests outside Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities and threatens to send more federal agents to control it.

The Pentagon has 200 Oregon National Guard troops on active duty, but they have not been deployed due to a court order issued by Immergut, a Trump appointee.

However, authorities in Oregon and Portland insist the protests are under control.

Additionally, the city stated on its website that coordination with the White House “is becoming more difficult” due to orders that contradict its values and the law.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield stated on social media that the Oregon Department of Justice will continue to fight to defend the state’s laws and Constitution ahead of the Oct. 29 hearing to determine whether the troop deployment can occur.

Trump even threatened to use the old Insurrection Law, which dates back to the 19th century and allows the executive branch, among other things, to repress protests and riots.
