It seems practical, but it’s a common household habit that could be shortening the life of your favorite pieces.
The practicality of washing machines with drying functions has gained popularity in Brazilian homes. But, according to maintenance technicians and experts, incorrect use of the equipment can seriously compromise certain parts we use. This happens because not all materials can withstand the combination of high temperature, intense centrifugation and hot air.
6 clothes that can never be washed or dried, according to experienced technicians
1. Underwear
The heat and friction of drying damage elastic fibers and deform the cups of bras and panties. Furthermore, the intense movement of the machine loosens lace and fine seams. The ideal is to wash by hand and dry in the shade.
2. Caps
The internal structure of the caps is made with pressed cardboard or molded plastic. The heat and humidity from washing and drying can deform the flap and cause a bad smell. Gentle cleaning with a damp cloth and soft brush is sufficient.
3. Pieces made from knitting and crochet
These pieces are handmade with delicate threads that deform easily. Spinning can lengthen or shrink the work. Wash by hand, remove excess water with a towel and dry flat.
4. Silk pieces
Silk is extremely sensitive to temperature and friction. When washed and dried, the fabric loses its shine, shrinks and can tear. It must be hand washed with neutral soap and dried in the shade.
5. Leather pieces
Natural or synthetic leather dries out and cracks a lot when exposed to heat. Machine drying accelerates wear and causes stains. Ideal cleaning is done with a damp cloth and specific leather products.
6. Gym clothes
Technological fabrics, such as polyester and elastane, lose elasticity and adherence in heat. Furthermore, residual sweat can react and generate a bad smell. Wash with cold water and avoid the drying cycle.
