Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the upcoming peace summit in Budapest. Orbán announced this on Facebook on Friday, where he added that intense preparations are underway for Putin’s meeting with US President Donald Trump, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports.

In an interview with public radio station Kossuth Rádió on Friday morning, the Hungarian Prime Minister said that Budapest is the only place in Europe where such a meeting can take place. “Hungary is almost the only country that advocates for peace, it has consistently, openly, loudly and actively advocated for peace for three years now,” stated.

Trump announced the meeting with Putin after their joint phone call on Thursday, which he described as productive. “I think it was a very good phone call,” he told reporters at the White House, where he will receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.
