Ciro is expected to define his political destiny next week. In July, he met with the leadership of the . At the time, he said that his return to the party had already been decided. The expectation is that he will run for the Ceará government in 2026. In addition to the PSDB, another party that shows interest in the former governor of Ceará is União Brasil.

Ciro, who ran for President four times, has been increasingly approaching right-wing parties in Ceará. He also became a fierce opponent of the Lula government and is one of the biggest critics of Elmano de Freitas’ government. At the end of September, he gave an interview to Itatiaia radio saying he was “very unhappy” at PDT.

The former presidential candidate’s departure from the PDT was lamented by people close to him, including the president of the party in the city of São Paulo, Antonio Neto.

“Today is a day of sadness for the PDT and for all of us who believe in the national and popular development project with the departure of comrade Ciro Gomes from the party”, says Neto.

“Today I lose a party companion, but I don’t lose a friend. As a Labor member long before being in the PDT, I am deeply grateful for the contribution that Ciro offered to our party and I am fully convinced that he will continue to be part of the most important political current in the history of our country: laborism.”
