The capital of Pará passes, this Saturday (18), through an important security and logistics testing in preparation for the COP30 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held on November 6th and 7th.

The training, coordinated by the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), takes place between 2pm and 5pm and should trigger bans on various roads in the city, simulating the movement of official convoys.

The objective is to guarantee the escort and safe travel of heads of state and international authorities who will participate in the event, considered one of the most strategic moments of the UN Conference on Climate Change ().

According to Colonel PM Ed-Lin, deputy secretary of Operational Management at Segup, the simulation focuses on adjusting travel time and the viability of the routes that will be used during the conference.

“This simulation aims to align the security teams. We will adjust the convoy logistics times and the viability of the roads so that everything is well coordinated when the authorities are here”, explained the colonel.

The training includes participation of various bodiesincluding PRF, Detran, Belém Municipal Guard, Military Police, Ministry of Defense, Marajoara Command and Seap, in an integrated effort to test routes and response times during official trips.

“It is important for the population to be aware of the roads that will be blocked at this time, so that everyone can plan ahead and avoid the intersections and avenues informed during the training period”, he advised.

Roads that will be closed (2pm to 5pm):

  • Av. Júlio César — between Daniel Berg and Almirante Barroso (closed)
  • Av. Duque de Caxias — between Travessa Alferes Costa and Dr. Freitas, in both directions.
  • Av. Dr. Freitas — between Rômulo Maiorana and Visconde de Inhaúma (closed in both directions).
  • Local access — residents of Av. Dr. Freitas between Duque and Rômulo Maiorana will have access with proof of residence.
  • The section between Almirante Barroso and Rômulo Maiorana on Dr. Freitas will remain open in both directions.

The simulation is part of the security plan put together by the Government of Pará for COP30, an event that should bring together leaders from more than 190 countries, as well as international organizations and representatives of civil society.

The operation is considered one of the biggest logistical challenges ever faced by Belém, which is counting down to host the most important climate conference on the planet.
