It is more than clear that you have already turned on election mode. Expansion of credit programs, such as Minha Casa Minha Vida, Gas para Todos, income tax exemption for people with earnings up to R$5,000 and the return of the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale are some programs with great popular and electoral appeal.

But Lula is not just playing to gather votes, but is also trying to co-opt part of the centrão, the one most inclined towards the government. It is good to remember that the centrão is not a homogeneous mass, but is mainly characterized by the absence of ideology, being mostly guided by ideological interests.

Thus, there is the centrão pro, by Ciro Nogueira and Kassab, as well as the centrão by Lula, Alcolumbre and Renan Calheiros and, now, Hugo Motta.

Realizing the “polarization” of the center, Lula plays hard with nominating positions and amendments for those who approached the government for 2026.

While Lula uses the machine very well to his advantage, the right fights over the choice of a candidate and with internal fights. If they mess up, Lula could be re-elected.
