The family of Isak Andic, , said they were confident in Jonathan Andic’s innocence, after several Spanish media outlets reported that he was officially being investigated for murder in connection with the businessman’s death, .
In a statement, the family assured that it will continue “to cooperate with the competent authorities, as it has done until now”, adding that it trusts that the process “will be concluded as quickly as possible and that it will prove Jonathan Andic’s innocence”.
According to the newspaper La Vanguardia, the judge investigating the death of Isak Andic – who fell from a cliff of more than 100 meters, ten months ago, during a hike in the Montserrat cave area, near Barcelona – began to formally investigate Jonathan in September, following contradictory statements made as a witness.
Additionally, authorities are analyzing Jonathan’s cell phone for new evidence. However, despite ten months of investigation, no conclusive evidence has yet been found linking Jonathan to his father’s death. The process remains under judicial secrecy, according to the court.
Isak Andic, born in Istanbul and based in Catalonia since the 1960s, founded Mango in 1984 and was considered the main rival of Amancio Ortega, from Zara. At the time of his death, he was non-executive president of the brand and had a fortune estimated at 4.5 billion dollars, according to Forbes.
After his death, Jonathan was appointed vice-president of the board of directors and president of the holding company MNG, while sisters Judith and Sarah assumed vice-presidency roles.
Executive director Toni Ruiz became president of the board of directors.
