The minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), accepted the (Attorney General’s Office) and reopened this Thursday (16) the investigation into the alleged interference of the former president () in the Federal Police.
The files were made available to the PF in the early evening. The corporation will still decide which team will be responsible for resuming the investigations, now focusing on the possible relationship between the PF’s interference with the irregular use of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) during the Bolsonaro administration. The report attempts to contact the former president’s defense.
The reopening was requested on Wednesday (15) by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet. He told the Supreme Court that the investigation into the coup plot revealed the systematic use of intelligence agencies for the former president’s anti-democratic plans.
“The demonstration is for the return of the files to the Federal Police so that the following steps can be carried out, without prejudice to others that the police authority deems necessary”, says Gonet.
The investigation into Bolsonaro’s alleged interference in the Federal Police was opened in 2020. At the time, the then Minister of Justice, Sergio Moro, resigned and said that Bolsonaro tried to intervene politically in the PF, by changing directors and conducting investigations related to his family members.
Gonet says that, based on Moro’s testimony, Bolsonaro’s complaint was about the “lack of access to PF intelligence reports.”
“It is essential, therefore, to verify more thoroughly whether there was actually interference or attempted interference in the investigations highlighted in the dialogues and in the former Minister’s testimony, through the use of the State structure and the clandestine obtaining of sensitive data”, states the head of the PGR.
