Civil Police of the State of São Paulo discover two gas stations suspected of supplying ethanol adulterated with methanol

The Civil Police of the State of São Paulo discovered two gas stations suspected of supplying adulterated ethanol used to counterfeit and adulterate alcoholic beverages. The discovery was made during operation this Friday (17). The stations are located in Santo André and São Bernardo do Campo, in ABC Paulista.

The action is an offshoot of the operation carried out last week, which dismantled a clandestine factory in São Bernardo do Campo. At the time, Vanessa Maria da Silva was identified as responsible for the clandestine factory and arrested in the act. Investigations show that part of Vanessa’s family – brother-in-law, husband and father – also participated in the criminal scheme. “The main hypothesis is that the adulterated drink came from Vanessa’s factory”, says Artur Dian, general delegate.

Two men, aged 54 and 46, died after drinking an adulterated drink in a bar in Mooca, east of São Paulo. “The Civil Police believe that all cases are related to the same criminal group”, added the ministry.

During the searches carried out this Friday, the cell phone of the man who supplied the containers used in the counterfeiting was also seized. “Investigators also identified the supplier of the drink consumed by one of the victims,” said the São Paulo State Public Security Secretariat (SSP).
