Ukrainian air defense encounters unexpected natural enemy hiding Russia's kamikaze drones

It enters a new phase. And it is not due to movements on the battlefield but to the change in weather conditions that is beginning to occur as autumn progresses.

In that sense, Ukrainian air defense is experiencing problems to take down those of Russia because the rain and the clouds are helping hide unmanned vehicles.

Specifically, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has warned that the effectiveness of the country’s air defense has fallen “by 20% to 30%” due to the instability of the Ukrainian skies.

One of the consequences of this reduction in the success of the Ukrainian air defense is that Russian kamikaze drones are increasingly hitting Ukrainian energy infrastructurewhich is a serious problem for the country now that winter is approaching.

In statements to the Ukrainian media the Ukrainian aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi has confirmed that “adverse weather conditions, such as low clouds, rain, snow and fog interfere with the visual location of objectiveseven when thermal imaging cameras are used.

Oleksiy, who coordinates mobile air defense groups in the kyiv region, noted in this regard that “a telescopic sight in rain and snow can see up to 100-200 meters”which has “a substantial impact” on the effectiveness of defense systems.

As a solution to this problem that the Ukrainian air defense is suffering, Anatolii Khrapchynskyi has expressed that “I continue to insist on the need to implement high-quality low-altitude radar coverage.

Oleksiy has acknowledged that radar coverage would be the best remedy. However, the installation of the most advanced radar systems would mean a economic cost that is currently unaffordable for Ukraine.
