Daniel Kim, 35, came to Portugal for a bachelor party. He ended up stabbed to death, in Cascais, when trying to defend his friend David. The attacker would be the security director of a nightclub.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. The following day, the Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested the suspect in the murder of the American tourist in Cascais and the attempted murder of another, using a knife, following a altercation in the street.
“After intense and uninterrupted investigative action initiated shortly after knowledge of the commission of the crimes, the Judiciary Police, through the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Directorate, identified, located and detained, based on evidentiary support of a testimonial, documentary and expert nature obtained, a 23-year-old man, strongly accused of committing two murder crimesone in the completed form and the other in the attempted form, both carried out using a bladed weapon, which occurred in the early hours of today”, said the PJ in a statement, cited by Lusa.
The two victims, one of whom died as a result of his injuries, were approached on a street in Cascais, and “an altercation occurred that was caused by seemingly futile reasonsbetween the aggressor and the two victims, initially only verbally and then with physical attacks, which motivated the defendant, now located and detained, to use a bladed weapon that he kept stored inside the motor vehicle he was using, to seriously hit the two victims”.
According to the report, the altercation began after the Portuguese took his hat off to David. They will then have become involved in verbal and physical confrontations; and the American called his friend Daniel. His 35-year-old compatriot showed up, but the outcome was tragic.
Daniel died at the scene after being stabbed several times.and David, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Santa Maria Hospital, in Lisbon, where he remains hospitalized, “in serious but stable condition”.
According to the PJ, “after the attacks, the attacker left the location quickly so as not to be intercepted by the police authorities who had been called to the location in the meantime.”
The CM says that the Portuguese justified the crime with a “heavy drinking” that he had at the time of the fight.
According to the PSP, who rushed to the scene after the alert given at 3:16 am, David detailed that, when he was heading to the local accommodation where he was sleeping, he was approached by three men who “as a provocation, tried to touch the hat that the victim was wearing”.
Called to attention, the 34-year-old tourist ended up being punched in the face three times and, after this, he called a friend who was nearby. “A few moments later, his friend arrived at the scene, starting a verbal altercation between them and the three suspects,” explained the PSP in a statement.
One of the suspects allegedly used a bladed weapon to inflict several blows on the two victims, and Daniel was stabbed in the back, arms and face. INEM tried to revive him, but the blows were deep and in vital areas.
After the attacks, the three men fled in a car that was close to the scene.
