  • A motorcycle signed by Pope Leo XIV sold for 130,000 euros.
  • Photos show the Pope on a white motorcycle with a helmet.
  • The motorcycle was brought by the motoring group Jesus Bikers from Germany.
  • The price of the motorcycle grew from the initial 30,000 euros in the auction.
  • Proceeds from sales will support missionary societies and children in Madagascar.

The Pope signed the motorcycle in September in the Vatican. Photos posted on the website of auction house RM Sotheby’s show the Catholic Church’s top official sitting on a white motorcycle and holding a helmet of the same design.

The machine was brought to Námestie sv. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican by members of the Jesus Bikers motorcycle group from the German village of Schaafheim near Frankfurt am Main during a three-day ride. The model of the motorcycle was apparently inspired by the papamobile – the official papal vehicle.

The auction of the BMW R 18 Transcontinental motorcycle started at 30,000 euros, but the price began to rise rapidly. According to the auction house’s website, the proceeds are intended to support the Pontifical Missionary Societies in Austria and children in Madagascar.

The buyer must pay more than the final price at which the item was auctioned. According to RM Sotheby’s, there is also an additional fee of 20 percent of the amount and an additional value added tax (VAT) of 19 percent of this fee.
