At least eleven dead, including seven children, in Israeli attack on Gaza City despite ceasefire

The horror of war does not cease in Gaza despite the truce. At least eleven people have been killed, including seven children, in an attack on the vehicle in which they were trying to return to their home in Gaza City, despite the agreement reached last week between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

The Gaza Civil Defense has reported that there were eleven members of the same family who were trying to return to their home in the Zeitun neighborhood. Among the fatalities, there are also three women, according to the Palestinian newspaper. Palestinerelated to Hamas.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented on these events, but have confirmed that they have launched an airstrike against “several terrorists who emerged from a hole” in Khan Yunis (south) and approached the Israeli troops, “which represented an immediate threat to them.”

They have also identified “several terrorists who emerged from a hole in the Rafá area (south) and fired at the forces in the area, without causing any casualties” among their ranks. Likewise, they have reiterated that they are deployed in the area and that “they will continue operating to eliminate any immediate threat.”

Last week’s agreement has led to a ceasefire and the beginning of a process of liberation of Israelis (living and dead) kidnapped during the attacks of October 7, 2023, which left some 1,200 dead and nearly 250 kidnapped, according to the official balance sheet of the Israeli authorities. To date, Hamas has released all 20 live hostages and handed over nine bodies, with disagreements over the identity of a tenth person.

Israel has also released more than 1,900 Palestinians who were in its prisons and has so far handed over 120 bodies of Palestinians killed in its offensive and whose bodies it has held since then. However, it has not proceeded to authorize the passage of humanitarian aid at the agreed levels, citing delays in the delivery of bodies by Hamas, which maintains that it does not have adequate machinery to recover them from buildings bombed by Israel.

The Gazan authorities affirmed on Thursday that the aforementioned offensive, unleashed after the attacks of October 7, 2023, has left 67,967 dead and 170,179 injured to date, although they have reiterated that “there are victims under the rubble and lying in the streets because ambulances and Civil Protection teams still cannot reach them”, which is why they consider that the real number is higher.
