The favoritism for the vacancy of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) opened a dispute for the command of the (Advocacy General of the Union), starting with the team itself.
Allies of the president (PT) are betting on the choice of a woman for the position of Messiah, if the PT member opts for a homemade solution for the succession.
Lula warned interlocutors that he would go to the Supreme Court with the retirement of Luís Roberto Barroso. He also said that he does not intend to delay the announcement.
Assistants to the Chief Executive identify potential replacements within the AGU staff. The option for a woman would be a way to mitigate criticism of the appointment of another man to the STF if Messiah’s name for the court is confirmed.
Among those considered for leadership of the AGU are Anelize Almeida, attorney general of the National Treasury; Isadora Cartaxo, general secretary of Litigation; Clarice Calixto, Attorney General of the Union; and Adriana Venturini, Federal Attorney General.
Finance Attorney since 2006, Anelize has a good presence in the government’s economic team, including Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance).
A Union lawyer for 17 years, Isadora Cartaxo is responsible for the AGU’s actions at the STF, maintaining a good relationship with judges. Clarice, in turn, worked in the Ministries of Justice and Culture during the Dilma government, having a good relationship with members of the government, in addition to the first lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, known as Janja.
Adriana Venturini has also worked before higher courts and has been a federal prosecutor since 2002.
The names of prosecutors Manuelita Hermes and Maria Rosa Loula are also mentioned.
Within the AGU, two men appear on the list of candidates for the position of Messiah.
Current substitute attorney general, Central Bank attorney Flavio Roman is appointed as a natural successor to the minister. In addition to him, André Dantas, General Consultant of AGU, is remembered.
Lula’s allies claim, however, that the president did not define the ideal profile for heading the AGU, remembering that the PT member was surprised by Barroso’s decision, who brought forward the announcement of his retirement without informing the Presidency of the Republic.
The president’s collaborators have suggested that he look for a name with political affinity to act in defense of the government, especially at a time of negotiations with US President Donald Trump.
Remember that it was Messias’ actions, from setting up the government structure to the relationship with the STF, that accredits the current attorney general to the court. Previously not close to Lula, Messias became a legal reference within the government, being heard on political issues.
Defenders of this thesis propose that Lula evaluate, for example, profiles within Prerogativas, a movement of lawyers coordinated by Marco Aurélio Carvalho.
