Atlantic Amazon Trail will be inaugurated at COP30

The longest trail in Latin America will allow walking or cycling; integrates environmental conservation strategy

It will be inaugurated during , in Belém, Pará, from the 10th to the 21st of November. The route, 468 km long, crosses the State and connects conservation units and quilombola territories.

According to , the structuring and signage of the trail are in the final phase. The initiative integrates government actions that seek to reconcile environmental conservation, job and income generation and leisure.

In the first year, the expectation is that 10,000 people will use the trail on foot or by bike. The route passes through 7 conservation units:

  • marine extractive reserves – Tracuateua, Caeté-Taperaçu, Araí-Peroba and Gurupi-Piriá;
  • Environmental Protection Area – Belém, Metrópole Wildlife Refuge and Utinga Camilo Vianna State Park.

The route, which was previously used partially by hikers, is now covered entirely, with maps, signage, guidance and support from local residents and trained entrepreneurs. He stated that the route prioritized lower environmental impact, allowing fauna to circulate and offering an attractive route to visitors.

The route also allows contact with the way of life of extractive populations, such as crab collectors, babassu extractors, small farmers and fishermen, and knowledge of mangroves and meadows.

The trail covers the municipalities of Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Benevides, Santa Isabel do , Castanhal, Inhangapi, São Francisco do Pará, Igarapé-Açu, Santa Maria do Pará, Nova Timboteua, Peixe-Boi, Capanema, Tracuateua, Bragança, Augusto Corrêa and Viseu.

It also cuts through the following quilombola territories: Torres (Tracuateua), América (Bragança), Pitimandeua (Inhangapi), Santíssima Trindade and Macapazinho (both in Santa Isabel do Pará).
