This Friday, the São Paulo Civil Police arrived at two gas stations identified as suppliers of methanol for a clandestine factory in São Bernardo do Campo, in ABC Paulista.
According to investigations, two men died after drinking adulterated drinks produced by the factory, which used to purchase ethanol at gas stations in the region. The suspicion is that this ethanol was contaminated by methanol, which would have made the drink toxic to consumers.
According to Artur Dian, general delegate of the São Paulo Police, it is possible that all drinks adulterated with methanol in the State came from this clandestine factory. The factory was closed, and the person responsible, Vanessa Maria da Silva, was arrested red-handed last week. The suspect’s defense was not located.
