Chartered vehicle transported passengers returning to Bahia after a day of shopping at the Santa Cruz do Capibaribe Clothing Center; Causes of the collapse are still being investigated
A tragedy on BR-423, in Agreste de, left dozens dead and injured on Friday night (17). A tourist bus carrying more than 30 passengers overturned at Serra dos Ventos, a stretch located between the municipalities of Paranatama and Saloá. Preliminary information from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) indicates that at least 13 people died at the scene of the accident.
The vehicle had been chartered for a shopping trip and was returning to the city of Brumado, in . The passengers were at the Santa Cruz do Capibaribe Clothing Center, in Pernambuco. According to the PRF, the authorization to charter the bus was valid and regularized for the specific trip.
The accident occurred around 8 pm, and the causes of the fall are still being investigated by the competent authorities. Several emergency teams were mobilized to the scene, including the PRF, the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), the Military Police and the Fire Department, which sent five vehicles for rescue and rescue operations.
The survivors were rescued and taken to health units in the neighboring cities of Paranatama, Iati, Saloá and Garanhuns. The Saloá municipal hospital reported having received 16 injured people, one of whom did not survive and died in the unit. There is still no detailed information on the identity of the victims or the health status of the injured.
