Disagreements over state alliances for 2026 led to departure; is the 7th party to which the former governor and former minister was linked
He delivered his letter of disaffiliation from the PDT to the party president, Carlos Lupi, this Friday (17.Oct.2025). The information was released by media outlets and confirmed by the Poder360.
This is the 7th party that the former governor of Ceará and former minister has left in his political career. The decision was motivated by differences in alliances in the dispute for the government of Ceará in 2026. Ciro disagrees with the Pedista support for the PT.
In the PDT since 2015, Ciro contested for the party in 2 of the 4 presidential elections in which he participated. He stated that he was “unhappy” in the acronym after joining the base of the president (PT), of whom he was once a minister and ally.
Since the 2024 municipal elections, Ciro had been articulating opposition to the PT and approaching exponents of the center and Bolsonarism. In Fortaleza, in 2024, he supported the former president’s ally (PL), deputy (PL-CE), against the Lulist candidate (PT), who emerged victorious.
The former minister opened conversations with leaders of União Brasil and PSDB to define their future, aiming for the 2026 elections. He even participated in the federation event between União and PP, in Brasília, signaling a rapprochement with the group.
There is still no clear destination for Ciro in 2026, but the government of Ceará is on the radar, as well as another new presidential candidacy – a more remote hypothesis.
Before PDT, Ciro Gomes was affiliated with PDS, PMDB, PSDB, PPS, PSB and Pros.
